Asolo, Marostica, Bassano: a different Veneto
The town of a hundred horizons, the square of living chess and a wooden bridge over the Brenta.
Have you already seen Venice? Then it’s time to discover a different Veneto: charming, unhurried and full of stories, legends and unexpected discoveries.
Join me on a journey through three wonderful small towns. Each has its own character, its own history and a special atmosphere.
What we’ll see
- Asolo, the town people fall in love with. It is called the town of a hundred horizons: views over the hills, old palazzi, cosy squares and flowering courtyards where you want to forget about the clock. Queens, writers and artists lived here. We’ll talk about the mysterious Caterina Cornaro, the English writer Freya Stark and others who found inspiration in Asolo.
- Marostica, the town of living chess. A medieval square, a majestic castle and a chess game where the pieces are real people in historical costumes. The game takes place every two years, and we’ll hear the legend that turned the love of two knights into the town’s most famous tradition.
- Bassano del Grappa, the town of bridges, stories and grappa. The wooden Ponte Vecchio, the fast-flowing Brenta, Alpine scenery and old streets. We’ll talk about the history of the bridge and its bond with the Alpini, the Italian mountain troops, and about local crafts and traditions.
We’ll also get to know one of the most famous symbols of the region: grappa. After all, Bassano is not only about history and architecture but also a town with a distinctive culinary character.
Three towns, three different characters and one unforgettable journey into the real Italy.
